Kilo 1K Ultra-Portable Pod Vape Review – Is it the Best of the Closed-System Pod Vapes?
Rivaling the popular JUUL pod vape pen, the Kilo 1K is one of few closed-system portable vape pens that gets our vote…at least we gave it a 9.7 which is pretty admirable. Here’s why.
Although there are some drawbacks, the good features outnumber the bad and the overall design is impressive.
Here Are the Design Features Worth Noting:
The Kilo 1K kit comes in a sturdy box that holds your battery and the USB charging cable.
There’s a nice finish to this pod vape. A thin rubber coating covers the stainless steel battery, so you get a comfortable grip without any added weight or bulk.
The Kilo 1K is ultra-portable, weighs only 26 grams and feels good in your hand. Size-wise, it’s just 9.5mm x 18mm x 109 mm, or .37 x .70 x 4.29 inches.
Like many portable models in its class, you get a direct draw on inhalation without having to press a button.
I found the mouthpiece to be very comfortable because of the tapered tip.
Key Features of the POD
- Japanese Organic Cotton Wick
- Color coded rubber caps on both sides of the pod
- Dual Airflow
- Resistance: 1.8 ohm
- 4.5% nic salts
- 50/50 PG/VG Optimization
- Gold-plated Connection
- Very long lasting
Kilo 1K pods are big! Each flavor pod holds 1.5ml of e-liquid which is infused with 45mg of nicotine salt. There is a 50/50 ratio of PG to VG.
I like the way the pod fits into the battery. There’s a good magnetic connection so it “pulls” itself into place without your having to do any pushing. There’s little chance these pods will come loose over time.
There is also a large, highly visable e-liquid window on the pod so you know how much juice is left to vape before you need to change it.
You can expect about 400 full flavored puffs per pod, and with the 950mAh battery, you won’t have to recharge before it’s depleted.
Kilo recommends shaking each pod before using it.
Charging the Battery
The battery will probably need charging when you get your kit. When you first connect it to the usb charger cable, the light will be red. When the battery is fully charged the light turns white…but it’s not always a good indicator that your battery is fully charged. You’ll have to be patient as it can take at least an hour to charge.
When I first discovered the Kilo (in late December 2018) there were only six flavors offered. Just a few weeks later they released 7 more flavors. I’ve tried them all and while I do have my personal favorites, they taste true to their name. I’ll review each one a bit later in this post.
Details on the Plus Side of the Kilo 1K
Simply Charge and Vape – This ultra-portable vape pod device is very easy to use. It’s ready to vape right after it’s charged, meaning there’s no need to fill the pod with e-juice. Just charge the battery and pop in your flavor pod.
There’s an atomizer resistance of 1.8ohm. Basically, the higher the ohm resistance, the cooler your vape will be, but this “middle of the road” 1.8ohm resistance does give you a strong throat hit. If you’re used to smoking, this may be just what you need to help you quit.
Temperature Control – As with most quality vape pod pens, you never have to worry about the battery getting too hot. If you don’t vape when the pod is empty, there won’t be any dry hits.
Strong Pod to Battery Magnetic Connection – You won’t have to keep securing the pod by pushing it down. This is one problem many have had with the JUUL vape pod pen.
Charge Light Indicator – When the battery is fully charged the indicator light is white. It’s yellow when you’re running out of power and red when the battery is depleted.
Mouth to Lung Draw – You get an even fuller throat hit with MTL draw. That’s when you hold the vapor in your mouth before inhaling it into your lungs.
Rubber Tips Keep Your Vape Pen Sanitary – Not only are the color-coded rubber tips that come with each pod cool, you can use them to keep this very portable pen more sanitary. Pockets and purses aren’t the cleanest places to carry something you put in your mouth.
Great for Beginner Vapers – This pod mod is easy to use and very satisfying for those just starting out. It’s a great choice for smokers who want to try vaping.
Details on the Downside of Kilo1K:
The 1.5mL Pre-Filled Juice Cartridges are not included in Starter Kit. Other pod systems we like, (such as the BO One and the SMOK Novo) do come with at least 2 pre-filled Caps or refillable pods. That can be handy if you’re giving a pod vape kit as a gift. Still, the price of the K1 Kit plus a pack of pods is still not as pricey as the JUUL kit.
Expect to get a full throat hit with the K1. Some vapers who prefer a smoother vape may find it too harsh. It’s certainly more than I’ve experienced with any other pod vape pen. I suspect it’s due to Kilo’s own 4.5% nic salts e-juice. I suggest taking lighter hits.
Speaking of batteries, the Kilo’s 350mAh battery will need to recharged once or twice a day depending on usage.
It’s not a quick charge. If your battery is low expect it to take about an hour.
I tested every flavor and I have to report that some pods took several puffs before they started working. Consider that fact when purchasing, as e-liquid, pods, and tanks are usually not returnable for an exchange. The only e-liquid manufacturer I know of that allows exchanges is the organic e-liquid company, Kind Juice.
There is No Pass-Through Vaping, which means you can’t vape while it’s charging.
As mentioned, the nicotine level in each pod is 45mg (4.5% nic salts). There are no other choices.
We have heard that some users experienced a bit of leaking,…more like “sweating” at the sides of the pod connection, but after several weeks of testing, we never had any leaks.
Kilo 1K’s Flavors:
What sets the K1 pods ahead of other flavor pods is that you can smell the flavor right through the pod, even before you pop it into the battery and vape. You basically get what you smell!
Dewberry Fruit – This flavor is a combination of blackberries and raspberries and is a favorite with many reviewers including myself. If you like a slightly sweet, fruity vape, give it a try.
Nutty – Not exactly as the name implies. It’s a combination of vanilla and almond. I did like it, but I actually think it’s more like butterscotch.
Smooth Tobacco – I’m not a big fan of tobacco flavors because they tend to taste more like chewing a tobacco leaf than the toasty smoke aroma, but this flavor comes closer than most. The throat hit is strongest with this flavor.
Menthol Tobacco – Very close to a menthol cigarette.
Strawberry – Pure strawberry without any other flavor, it’s true to taste and not too sweet.
Strawberry Milk – Much like the strawberry flavor…just creamier.
Milk Coffee – Quite like a coffee latte; you can taste both coffee and cream.
Fruit Tart – This is a true mixed fruit flavor with a lingering hint of pastry.
Peach – Some peach flavored e-liquids I’ve tried can be overpowering, but the K1 Peach flavor is not so. It’s peachy keen.
Lemon Berry Ice – My absolute favorite, this citrus tasting vape has both sweetness and cooling elements. For some reason, the throat hit was not as strong as the other flavors.
Lemon Meringue– Very true to the name. If you like lemon meringue pie you won’t be disappointed, although the throat hit is strong.
Sweet Mango – You do smell fresh mangos and it is true to taste, but for me, the throat hit overpowered the flavor.
Green Apple Candy – If you’re a fan of green apples you’ll get all the fruitiness and tartness you’ll expect. There’s just a hint of sweetness.
Summing Up This Review
Best E-Cigarette Guide’s Rating
Few lightweight closed-system pod vapes can offer full-tasting flavors plus a satisfying vape with ample vapor production. If you like a nice throat hit, the Kilo K1 won’t disappoint.
The nic salt e-juice has, in my opinion, just the right amount of nicotine.
I was somewhat disappointed to find that a few of the flavor pods took several puffs to work.
Although the Kilo 1K kit does not include any flavor pods, the cost of buying both the kit and a pack of pods can be economical when compared with other high quality vape pod systems.
You’ll find the kit available from several vape sites including VaporDNA, but we recommend Direct Vapor because they always offer free shipping. If you don’t like your vaporizer, returns or exchanges are honored without question. That said, e-liquids and pods are not returnable for health reasons.
